The Artist

Beau Jesse Johnston photographing waves from the ocean using a professional camera in an underwater housing during golden hour.

I photograph moments that exist for only a fraction of a second.

From swimming beyond the shoreline to capture waves from within the ocean, to chasing monsoon storms across the deserts of the American Southwest, my work is centered on fleeting natural events that exist for only an instant before disappearing forever.

I am drawn to the rare convergence of light, atmosphere, motion, and timing—the moments when nature reveals something extraordinary. A wave may hold its shape for less than a second. A lightning strike may illuminate a landscape for only a fraction of a moment. These are the experiences I pursue.

Each photograph represents more than a place. It represents a singular moment in time that will never occur in exactly the same way again.

My goal is to create artwork that allows collectors to experience that sense of wonder every time they live with the piece.
